In 1996 the Notorious B.I.G. performed in Kingston Jamaica on Jamaica’s biggest show called Sting which is also known as the greatest one night show on earth. The show was held on December 26th on that year, one day after Christmas. Biggie performed to a sold out crowd of over 30,000 people along with Jamaica’s biggest dancehall artists at the time. Biggie performed in a wheelchair as his broken leg was in a cast. He broke his leg in a car accident and was in the hospital for over 2 months.
In 2005, Sean “Contractor” Edwards head of the Contractor Music Group based in Ocho Rios, Jamaica acquired the master audio tape recording of Biggie’s live performance. He licensed the recording non exclusively to Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, head of Bad Boy Records. Contractor was in dialogue with Harve Pierre who was Puffy’s assistant at the time. One day while Contractor was driving in his hometown in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Puff Daddy called Contractor personally and said the recording was fire and that he would be doing the deal with Contractor for the licensing of the Biggie live recording.
Contractor signed the paperwork and sent the tape to Puffy. In 2005 Puffy used a snippet of Biggie’s live performance on Biggie’s posthumous album called Duets the Final Chapter. The album was released by Bad Boy Records and Atlantic Records in December of 2005.
